Acrylic gouache, marker on illustration board, Digital. I originally wanted to do this piece with just paint, but I found myself tempted by my old friend Photoshop. I smoothed out the skin, fabric and armor and added some "special effects" around the tentacles and disintegrating axe. The thing I like about digital tools is in how it aids in making large-scale changes in color, as well as lightening and darkening areas in a very easy way. The downside is that one can lose a certain randomness that happens in the painting process. Although the program Painter is getting closer to simulating this kind of helpful chaos, I still haven't duplicated the tools and workflow in a way I'm completely satisfied with.
