Acrylic gouache on board. Elephant snack! After coming up with a ballpoint pen sketch, I did a second version in marker. I then brought the piece into Photoshop and Painter, and colored up the piece quite a bit there. I experimented with a "flame" brush, which gave me some interesting colors on the fire aura but didn't really get me the volume and structure in the fire I was looking for. I printed it out, sealed the paper on acrylic, and glued it to the 8" x 10" masonite brand I've been using regularly for most Magic card these past few years. I customized the flame some more with acrylic gouache, elaborated on the rocks in the background, and topped it off with some extra texture.
